Bihar Agricultural University

The Bihar Agricultural University is the second agricultural university to be established on August 5, 2010, the main campus of which is located in erstwhile Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour.Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary science and diary technology are currently being taught in the University. It is one of the first State Agricultural Universities to have started Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning to train faculty members in Teaching Technology. 


Vision of Bihar Agricultural University


The main objective of Bihar Agricultural University is to improve the quality of farming and agricultural techniques of the state thereby bringing in qualitative changes in the lives of the farmers. It plans to achieve this through research, extension and training programmes. 

Education: Developing trained human resources through professional programmes in agriculture and allied fields.

Research: Addressing present and future agricultural issues through applied and basic research and developing new techniques for the benefit of the farmers in particular and society in general. Krishi Vigyan kendras have been set up for the same.

Extension: Ensuring transfer of and adoption of technology keeping the socio economic conditions of the targeted groups besides agro-ecological security needs.

Training: It wishes to establish itself as a centre for excellence in training for capacity building of extension professional.

Research in Bihar Agricultural University 


The University has a strong  research programme which are carried out in different colleges namely Colleges of Agriculture at Sabour, Buxar, Saharsa, Purnea and Kishanganj; College of Horticulture at Noorsarai, Nalanda; Bihar Veterinary College and Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology at Patna. The main themes that the University is currently working upon are:

To promote research it has strong linkages with the ICAR institutes including Directorate of Rice Research, Directorate of wheat Research, Indian Institute of Pulse Research, Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, India Institute of Farming System Research, Directorate of Maize Research, Central Plantation Crop Research Institute, Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, National Dairy Research Institute, Indian Veterinary Research Institute and several others. Library in Bihar Agricultural University

The library was established in 1908 with the start of Agricultural Experiment Station and Agricultural School at Sabour. During every financial year library makes collection building of about 4,000 / 5,000 titles under different schemes of University / ICAR. Some of the holdings (Books and Journals) are of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. These are the rare and valuable documents of this University library. The Library has a total of 45,000 books including volumes of Journals. It subscribes 74 Foreign & Indian Journals and 31 news papers including popular magazines. The library has the rare privilege of possessing, some unique books which are over 300 years old and were procured in the year 1913.
